Intense and Grippy

                                                                      Rangers Apprentice 2011
                                                                        John Flanagan
                                                                               Realistic Fiction
                                                                                 4/5

Halt and Will are tracking a religous cult who are stealing money from the country side. Halt is shot with a poisoned arrow and incapacitated.
Due to Picta's geographical location being near Macindaw, Will does a tiring one-day one-night ride to reach Malcolm, the man that assisted them before and is possibly the best healer in all of Araluen, if not the world. After bringing the healer back, Will learns that Halt was poisoned with a toxin that has another toxin extremely similar to it, and the both have antidotes, but the wrong one will kill him. Will then captures the assassin that fired the arrow, and forces him into telling which type of toxin he used, and Malcolm cures Halt. Later that night, the assassin tries to escape, but Will manages to kill him before he does.
The group, on the move again, manage to find that Tennyson is up to his old tricks again and is trying to swindle the money out of more countrymen. Using Halt's similarity to King Ferris, whom Tennyson murdered, they manage to discredit Tennyson in front of the farmers and therefore ending the cult.

very grippy and intense. This book has a narrator that can see into most of the characters thoughts. This book is never slow and always action packed and intense

Halt has been in countless perilous situations in his life, but he's always come out unscathed. But his winning streak may have come to a permanent end in "Halt's Peril,"

Ranger's Apprentice: Halt's Peril" is another solid entry in John Flanagan's action-packed fantasy series -- the first half drags, but things pick up once the assassins come back into the picture.

I would recomend this book to anyone who wants an intense action book

Historical fiction meets Fiction and Fantasy

                                                                 Rangers Apprentice 2006
                                                                      Flanagan John
                                                                      Historical Fiction/Fantasy
                                                                                       5/5

Will has just escaped from Slavery and is on the road to recovery. While living in the mountains of skandia the worst of all happens... Evanlyn his savior and the one helping back to recovery is captured by a temujai warrior. Will must save Evanlyn otherwise know as the princess of Araluen. When Will steps out of the trees to save her worst of all worst happens there is a full camp of temujai that attacks him. Then he hears the sound of a longbow and he knows that halt has come to save him and Evanlyn. Will and Halt find out that the Temujai (the riders of the eastern steppes) have come to take over the western hemisphere and they are starting with skandia then to Araulen. This makes the skandians and Araluens Temporary Allies to try and stop this unstoppable force of men.

This books theme is the power of friendship and how it can get you through anything.

It has a narrator that sees into Will's thoughts only and occasionally some of his enemy's and allies. This book is extremely intense and has a great storyline that has some really interesting historical fiction elements in it.

this book high tensions raised and recommended it to people who enjoy action and adventure
-School Library Journal

Another aspect commonly praised is the fact that Will, the main protagonist still asks for the help of others

A great fantasy Flashback : Rangers apprentice Book 7 Eraks Ransom

Rangers Apprentice 2009
John Flanagan
Fiction
Skandian Oberjarl Erak Starfollower becomes tired of paperwork and leaves Borsa, his attendant to take care of matters while he goes on one last raid to Arrida the desert wasteland. When everything goes wrong way wrong... Erak is captured by a crazy desert tribe the Tualaghi and will and his friends must try to free him... They risk heat water and death itself to free their friend...

Will learns the power of self doubt and how bad it is... This self doubt leads him to make a fatal mistake and he is almost killed because of it.

The book is very grippy and on the edge of your seat. There is a 3rd person narrator that helps understand the book. With this style it takes you into the very center of the book and makes you feel as if you are apart of the adventure.

This book is intended for young adults. It has a good vocabulary that would be difficult for the younger reader to understand. This book Is also appealing to adults so it has a wide range of audiences.

One reviewer from Booklist noted that  the point of view constantly shifted, it is not confusing and also stated, "Will's vivid world will entice fantasy readers who are drawn by the lure of high adventure carried out by believable, down-to-earth heroes."

"filled with rich detail and plenty of edge-of-your-seat thrills"

I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone. It is by far my favorite series.

Will learns how to expect the unexpected. This is taught when will finds out that Keren was behind it all and not Orman or Malkallam.
